This robot cleaner is my second Roomba and in comparison it is 1000% better than the old one from years ago. So if you had one of the first Roomba vacuums don’t judge the efficiency by that one.

My very first Roomba malfunctioned after a couple of years and I had to return to vacuuming with the big vac. We recently rescued a 2 yr old yellow lab who sheds with each step so I was constantly dragging out my big vacuum, While shoving that thing back and forth and wishing I was doing something else, I decided to try a robot vacuum cleaner again.

I tried a different brand thinking that Roomba’s price was too high and because of good reviews, unfortunately that ones does poorly on the area rug in the living room where I really needed to have hair picked up.

However it does a good job on my tile floors in the kitchen so I may keep it just to do those floors since it helps keep up with the dog hair and has a remote control that gives me some control over where it goes.

Pros
iRobot Roomba 960 does a good job on both carpet, hard surface floors to clean up dog hair and debris.
iRobot Roomba 960 cleans under my bed and couch that are more difficult to move around.
iRobot Roomba 960 has a very large bin to hold dirt and it was needed.
iRobot Roomba 960 has a handle to easily lift with one hand when I need to.
iRobot Roomba 960 is bigger and definitely more powerful than the one I had years ago and also the current competing brand that I have.
iRobot Roomba 960 can be started by pushing a button but the WIFI connection to and program on my iPhone works great and I love all the information it provides me
iRobot Roomba 960 can be scheduled for one time per day vacuuming.

Cons
Roomba can only be scheduled for one time per day of cleaning but can be used manually or by WIFI a second time or more.
iRobot Roomba 960 does not come with any cleaning tools but I have had no problems wiping the dust bin out and the rollers look easier to clean than a bristle brush
iRobot Roomba 960 does not have a remote control to let me guide the robot where I want it to go but over time I think it will clean all the areas that I want cleaned (that a robot cleaner can get too)

Just like dishwashers, even top of the line dishwashers, can not clean everything, neither can the Roomba. Just like with a dishwasher, there will be an occasional need for a person to do areas that dishwasher and robot vacuum can not do. As long as I remember that, I believe the Roomba will be a perfect robot to help me keep my home cleaner and clearer of dog hair.

I will probably run Roomba at least twice a day in our living room where the dog sheds on the carpet. I wish it could be scheduled for twice a day instead on one time per day but it is a small inconvenience.

UPDATE: After running this roomba at least twice daily, I must say I am pleased to see cleaner floors each day. I also run my cheaper ILIFE robot vacuum on the kitchen tiled floor to cut down on tracking dog hair into other rooms. NO ROBOT VACUUM can totally clean up dog hair as good as my old Shark cordless sweeper vacuum. Even after running Roomba 960 twice, there is still dog hair on my textured 8×10 rug. But, my little old Shark cleans up what Roomba leaves behind! When I replace one of my robot vacuums it will be with a Shark robot vacuum.

Roomba 960 is WAY smarter than most… and for superficial to moderate cleaning, it’s amazing.

Roomba might be my favorite purchase in a very long time

Where do I start??? Roomba might be my favorite purchase in a very long time. I was a non believer for so long and took a very big gamble, and it’s basically changed my life! I was literally at my wits end with dog hair, crumbs from toddler and sloppy husband. I was optimistic on the hardwood floors and tile but very pleasantly surprised at its performance on area rugs and carpet. In emptying bin, which is definitely on the small side given its small profile, see a lot of hair and debris. Since it’s arrival it’s run almost everyday. I cry tears of joy when I come home to clean floors. It’s awesome not having to spend so much time vacuuming before company comes over. I set it and then proceed to dust, clean and straighten. Such a time saver! It’s not perfect but pretty close! Just regret taking so long to make the investment, which it is definitely.

Long time Roomba fan, disappointed in 960’s pet fur cleanup

I’ve enjoyed several generations of Roombas, and each one has been a greatly appreciated luxury. I have always been impressed with their ever-improving functionality (trustworthy obstacle and terrain navigation, reliable parts, proficient vacuum performance) and accepting of their necessary physical limitations (small bin size, limited battery life and motor power). Regular maintenance and a daily routine has always resulted in Roomba keeping the floors incredibly tidy in a household of long hair, a giant double-coated dog, and a medium-hair cat. It’s a little thing, but coming home after a 12 hour day at work to freshly cleaned carpets restores an inordinate amount of sanity.

Love it!

My housekeeper vacuums the living room every other week, but here is what 10 minutes of the Roomba picked up. Love it!

A decent product for pet owners; I’m glad I waited for this model; it still needs work

I waited a long time to get a Roomba. I wanted to give the developers time to get out all the kinks: it needed to be able cross thresholds, operate on a schedule and with an app, hold up to consistent use, and make the expense worth the convenience and labor saved by not having a cleaning person, as often. This latest model does most of that, and fairly well. I own four dogs who generate a considerable amount of pet hair. This product does a very good job at cleaning. It has two noticeable flaws. The minor of these two flaws is that it still needs help 15% of the time navigating and being relocated after encountering electrical cords, like those that one come from a floor lamp. The more serious flaw I find is the fairly consistent need to not only empty the trap (which I would expect to do) but to regularly have to remove trap and then remove the inner workings of it as well to get the dirt out before the “trash full” light will go off and it will clean again. Frequently the “trash full” light will come on, I’ll easily remove the trap and empty it in the trash can and easily put it back in to the Roomba, expecting to hit “go” and have it resume cleaning. But after I put the empty trap/receptacle back, the red “trash full” light stays on. Very often I find that this first step is not sufficient and I have to go back a second time, pull out the trap, and then partially disassemble the unit, pulling out the wheels and sticking my fingers up into the machinery it to get all the dirt out that’s backed up in it and THEN put the trap/receptacle back before the sensors will acknowledge that it is in fact “empty” and ready to suck up dirt again. This is annoying and I have the feeling I should have waited for one more generation of Roomba to come out before dropping the chunk of change to get this one. With that said, aside from these two flaws it does a pretty good job at vacuuming thoroughly. So I’d say it’s “okay.”

A real Hazel, except she doesn’t talk back…

I had always considered robotic vacuums to be interesting toys… until a couple of friends bought them and had good experiences. So we bought one as a Christmas gift to the both of us. We have a single level 3 bedroom home of about 2600 sq ft. We also have about 50% wall to wall carpet and 50% tile floors with rugs and five cats. Cat hair has been a constant problem. We closed off the two guest bedrooms and the guest bath just to keep the cats and their hair out of those rooms that didn’t get much use. The rest of the house is fairly well filled with furniture and a life time of stuff.
