Review of iRobot Roomba e5 (5150) Robot Vacuum
A few months ago IRobot presented one of its latest automatic vacuum cleaners. This is the model Roomba e5 that I have the opportunity to present in today’s review.
Apart from that.
The whole thing has reached our editorial office to move the box in which you will find a robot model Roomba e5 docking station to which the robot automatically returns when it completes the cleaning cycle or when it needs to recharge its battery. You will also find a virtual wall and a set of necessary books, such as a quick start of the robot full instruction and warranty card. In the upper part of the casing you will find three buttons. The first one is used to find the robot or send it to the docking station. The second one is used to start and stop the robot.
The last third button is used to start cleaning at a specific time, so called sports cleaning. At the top of the device, there is a bumper that is designed to cushion the impact of an obstacle that can be encountered by the robot during its cleaning. A very convenient and practical solution is a handle that allows you to move easily from floor to floor of our device from the bottom of the device you will find special profiled rubber brushes that are designed to clean different surfaces compared to the 600 700 series in the model. There is five times the power of the male, which allows you to easily clean not only dust and coat, but also dirt. On the plus side, the brushes can be easily removed and cleaned. Therefore, there is no need to be afraid of problems with making longer threads or strings. What the robot has already got used to.
Large rubber wheels that have a large range of movement they allow you to easily drive through the edges or low thresholds.
The set also includes a virtual wall. It is used to determine the area to which the robot should not enter. It is possible to set two modes. The first is a straight line with a range of up to three meters to, for example, separate one room from another. The second mode is a circle that works very well e.g. with water containers. A novelty that appeared with the Roomba e5 model is the ability to easily empty the dirt container and its direct cleaning under water. This simple way we gain even more convenience of use. On the side of the container there is a filter which is responsible for capturing up to 99% of allergies.
Thanks to a dedicated application at any time we can check the filling of the container and when it is full robot itself will remind us of the need to empty it. In the practical test we have prepared an obstacle course for the robot consisting of the most common daily dirt. We have here, among others, flour sugar foam and scattered threads.
In addition, there is also a zloty to check whether the declared by the robot greater power and special rubber brushes will be able to cope with the achievement of such an object.
During the test, we used a dedicated application to operate the robot. In principle, it allows for a complete overview of our device. We can, for example, start the robot stops to plan a cleaning schedule for each day of the week and check, among other things, the size of the dirt container filling the hospital threshold when the robot arrives is the result of the Dirty Detector system.
Which in the moment of detecting more dirt makes the robot devote more time to cleaning a specific area of the test room.
After about 8 square meters in one direction the test room was fenced and a virtual wall was attached to the set which was an effective barrier for the robot.
Extensive navigation system works in a way that each point will be at least three times cleaned each time at a different angle.
A very interesting option is also the ability to control the robot using the voice of the Google assistant.
Drive up to the edge carefully along it requiring a dirt encounter. Additional dirt sensor in the moment of meeting more dirt makes the robot in a given place stagger wheels. In order to clean the wheels even better, we evaluate the whole ride very well.
Customer Review of iRobot Roomba e5 (5150) Robot Vacuum
Summary: Good value if you want excellent cleaning but do not care about all the bells and whistles of programming it. The rubber “brushes” are a big improvement for hair and fur over typical brushes.
I have had both a 150 and a thousand dollar robot vacuum so this one is in the middle in cost. Overall I also found it to be a good value for cost for performance, with some prosand cons compared to the other two.
App was easy to set up but you do not have to use the app.
This did NOT come with any sort of virtual wall barrier. It should because it does not have the awareness of the higher priced vacuums. The thousand dollar one has a camera and so it does not run into everything. This one does not, it touches stuff to find obstacles. You can buy a virtual wall separately for about sixty bucks. If you contact roomba they will give you a coupon code and free shipping. Still, I think this should come with a wall. I am docking a star because of non washable filter and no wall included.
It works with Alexa. You can tell it to clean, return home and spot clean. I did find when my wifi went down it sometimes would reset itself up but sometimes I had to redo it.
Dustbin is 500 ml which is a little over 2 cups.
The rubber “brushes” are one zillion times better. No hair getting wrapped around them.
The spinning outside brush is longer than the ones on my other two, and gets near the baseboards much cleaner.
Works very well on my tile floors, on my low pile berber carpet. Picked up debris from as small as spilled salt. Works acceptability on the higher pile small scatter rugs.
The dirt collector is washable (but not the filter)
Ran for over an hour on 3 trials.
The battery is easy to replace, and costs about eighty bucks.
Having the debris holder on the side means it is slightly harder to pop it out that ones that are on the top if you want to just bend over and remove it.
Filter is not washable. For this price it should be and they should give you an extra one.
Does not recharge and then resume cleaning.
Does not tell you the bin is full.
Does not map rooms (although to be honest, I never use this on my pricey version either)
Even with the 90 min battery because of the random navigation it tends to miss spots and go over other more than one time. I find locking it in one room at time to be more effective.
